Interview: Space Travel

Here I bring in space travel if it were to just be brought out to the world. I question computer science major, Justin, on his detailed view for what it would be like.

1. How do you see space travel in its early stages when introduced in present times?

At present it would be an extremely expensive venture. only a few wealthy citizens would be able to afford it, and even fewer willing to use it. The lack of any news of space in recent years indicates that the public generally doesn’t care for space travel, at least not in this decade.

2. What kind of accidents can you see take place in space travel if there are few individuals?

There are many things that can cause an accident in space. the most serious include oxygen leaks, miscalculated food rationing, loss of water. There is also the threat of bone density loss after a prolonged period of time in space.

Fewer individuals using space travel means less money being used to fund and research it. Which means safety precautions might not be looked into as much as they should, depending on the company. then there is fuel, and the threat of floating debris as well as gravitational pull should the vessel enter range of a large mass, say an asteroid.

3. What laws do you see be put in place?

First set of laws I see being put into place are restrictions on where and when space vessels can be operated.

Governments don’t want vessels flying and landing all over the earth willy nilly. It disrupts the peace of those poor fishermen, and worse yet pirates could easily hijack a vessel if they don’t land in safe territory. I believe all this would be worked out beforehand, but this is what I see being first implemented

4. If you had the opportunity to space travel what  would you do?

I’d take it!

5.  Where do you see yourself traveling and doing there?

I’d fly to the moon and then mars. If we’re talking about inter-galactic travel, Id hitchike a ride and sail the universe.

There really isn’t much to do on the majority of most planets other than die a horrible death from noxious gas or lack of oxygen and livable air pressure. So I think i’ll snap a few pictures and go about my other business.

Going back to the moon, I’d like to see niel armstrong’s footprint  and dig it up and bring it back to earth to shove into conspiracy theorists’ faces.

6. What type of cities do you see space travel bringing?
If we consider an animal, its body consists of blood vessels, muscles, and organs, among other things. civilization is the same in many ways. Roads are the blood vessels that carry needed supplies to cities and other settlements. space travel, then, is the first step to colonizing outside of mother earth. As for the kinds of cities, structurally they would have to vary to adapt to the terrain they inhabit.
Culturally, they would at first be inheritents of earth culture, but would over time develop their own distinct flavors of society. This also depends on the rate at which people can get from one city to another. The longer it takes to reach a settlement, the less interaction there will be between peoples. Communications in general will also take longer.
7. Do you see space travel reaching the level of star wars achievable?
Depending on the type of methods used for propulsion, maybe. not any time soon, though. There isn’t any way of knowing whether or not we can pull it off, but we managed to fly and that was thought impossible too. So who knows what the future holds. right now, we can only fantasize.
